Morrissey ‘Seriously Considering’ Running For London Mayor To Save Animals From Slaughter

Londoners have a lot on their plates: crucifying rents, overcrowding and lack of an overnight Tube.

Now professional miserabilist Morrissey has announced he wants to replace Boris Johnson as mayor of the capital to save animals from “Nazi”-style slaughter in abattoirs.

After being approached by the Animal Welfare Party, the ex-frontman of The Smiths says he wants to speak out against the “hellish social injustice” perpetrated against animals in Britain.

The dedicated vegetarian, 56, would run as a candidate for the Animal Welfare Party and needs 330 signatures of support.

If he runs, the warbler – real name Steven Patrick Morrissey – will be up against veterans such as Labour’s Sadiq Khan and Tory Zac Goldsmith.

Animal Welfare Party leader Vanessa Hudson said: “I can confirm we have asked Morrissey to consider standing as a candidate in the election.”

According to website True To You – the semi-official fan blog Morrissey has used to disseminate messages in the past – he is “considering the contest very seriously”.

Morrissey issued a statement to the site in which he expressed his views on animal welfare and the UK meat industry.

Part of his rant said: “Animal welfare groups cannot persist simply in order to continue to persist.

“There must be a governmental voice against the hellish and archaic social injustice allotted to animals in the United Kingdom simply because those animals do not speak English, otherwise millions of very caring citizens are greatly concerned about issues that no one is able to do anything about.”

Morrissey’s statement went on: “The abattoir is the modern continuation of the Nazi concentration camp, and if you are a part of the milk-drinking population, then you condone systems of torture.”

Morrissey’s statement also included a reference to Jamie Oliver, who he has attacked in the past.

It added: “If animal serial killer Jamie Oliver feels so passionate about including ‘kid meat’ (young goat) into the human diet, would he consider putting forth one of his own kids (children) for general consumption? If not, why not?”

In January 2014 Morrissey criticised Oliver for cooking “flesh blood” and later that year claimed the TV chef should be gassed.

He told music magazine Hot Press: “It would be a great help if Princess Anne gassed Jamie Oliver. He’s killed more animals than McDonald’s.”
