Moscow Council Candidate Using Plaster Casts of Her Bust to Protest City's Demolition Plans

Lusya Stein, a local election candidate in Moscow, has, in an unusual way, made the city’s controversial renovation program central to her campaign.

Plaster casts of Stein’s breasts have been appearing at buildings listed for demolition in her Basmanny district. Stein’s campaign quoted her as saying, “I want to protect my area, but I cannot attend different places at the same time, so I placed some of myself in houses that are doomed to demolition in Basmanny district, where I live and from which I’m nominated.”

The campaign said that naked women’s breasts had a long association with protest, citing Delacroix’s painting Liberty Leading the People as an example.
