Most googled people in the world: Caitlyn Jenner, Kevin Hart and James Charles top 2019 list

Google has released its Year in Search report - revealing which celebrities were searched for the most in 2019.

With names including Keanu Reeves, Billie Eilish, Rami Malek and Brie Larson topping the list, their breakdown of the most searched for people features a number of names who have had a big year - or a very controversial one.

The search platform released a number of different categories to its top tens. For actors, Empire's Jussie Smollett was top of the list. Smollett, who was previously a lesser known figure, shot to the top of Google search following controversies surrounding an alleged attack in Chicago.

Following Smollett, comedian Kevin Hart came in second place after his string of movies and a near fatal car accident made headlines.

The Joker’s Joaquin Phoenix came next, followed closely by the ‘internet’s boyfriend’ Keanu Reeves.

There were fewer women on the list this year though Lori Loughlin came into fifth place. The Hallmark star Lori Loughlin became embroiled in the Operation Varsity Blues scandal. Lauren London, the girlfriend of the late Nipsey Hussle, was sixth followed by Rami Malek, Japanese actor Erika Sawajiri, Brie Larson and Hirofumi Arai.

The list of most googled people was slightly different, as it included singers such as Billie Eilish, sportspeople and even YouTuber James Charles.

American footballer Antonio Brown was the most googled person in the world, followed by footballer Neymar. James Charles came in third, followed yet again by Smollett, Hart and then singer Billie Eilish, who has had a mammoth 2019.

Climate change activist Greta Thunberg was seventh, followed by R. Kelly, Joaquin Phoenix and Jordyn Woods - who blew up this year following a cheating scandal involving Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson.

Google also broke down the lists for each individual country, which showed varying results. In the UK, I’m a Celeb star Caitlyn Jenner was the most googled person, followed by James Charles, then Prince Andrew, Tommy Fury, Boris Johnson, Jeremy Kyle as well as Liam Neeson and R. Kelly further down the list.

The most googled people in the UK

The US’ most searched people was very similar to the global list with some changes. Antonio Brown, Smollett, Charles, Heart and Kelly took the top five spots, while sixth introduced 21 Savage into the mix.

The list also revealed Game of Thrones was the most googled TV show in the world, while Stranger Things, Chernobyl, When They See Us and The Umbrella Academy took the next four spots.

Lil Nas X’s musical phenomenon 'Old Town Road' was also the most googled song in the world, while four of the five most googled movies were all superhero-related with Avengers: Endgame taking the top spot.
