The mother of a 30-year-old school assistant who died with Covid-19 issued a heartfelt warning to young people today to “socialise responsibly” as lockdown measures are eased.

Charity Telford, 60, was issued with PPE to stay at her daughter Channe’s hospital bedside before she lost her five-week fight for life at the Whittington in Archway in May.

The housing worker from Islington said: “They put her on a ventilator very quickly. We were clinging on to hope.

"She loved music so we played it to her and read and talked to her. We expected her to pull through.”

Mrs Telford said Channe, who was diabetic and had very mild asthma, tested positive for Covid-19 in hospital.

She said: “She was working as a school admin assistant but dreamed of being a midwife. Young people see the deaths on the news but they don’t relate it to themselves. When it happens to your family it’s devastating.

“I know young people need to socialise but they need to do it responsibly and follow the rules.”
