Mother charged with murdering two daughters a year after their deaths

A mother has been charged with murdering her two young daughters a year after they died.

Louise Porton, 22, is accused of killing 16-month-old Scarlett Vaughan and three-year-old Lexi Draper, Warwickshire Police said.

Lexi died in hospital after paramedics responded to reports she had been found unconscious in her home in Rugby in the early hours of 15 January last year, officers said.

Scarlett died on the night of 1 February after paramedics responded to a report she had fallen ill.

The Warwickshire Police major investigation unit passed a file to the Crown Prosecution Service and prosecutors have now approved two charges of murder.

Porton, of Skiddaw, Rugby, will appear before magistrates in Leamington on Saturday.
