Motherwell Greggs supervisor crowned wrestling champion at Hamilton Accies Stadium
A Motherwell Greggs supervisor was crowned champion at a wrestling event at Hamilton Accies Stadium in front of 400 fans.
Lewis Reid, 20, was crowned the Cruiserweight Champion at Community Pro Wrestling’s (CPW) Anarchy at the Accies event.
The former Bellshill Academy pupil, who performs under the ring name "Thorin," emerged victorious in a high-stakes Championship Scramble match where he defeated five formidable opponents - The Wanderer, E Town, CJ West, Martin McCalister, and Martin Mullet - in the main event of the night.
Reid secured his championship win in spectacular fashion by putting The Wanderer through a table with a swanton bomb before pinning him.
The victory for the supervisor at the Greggs bakery on Merry Street in Motherwell was particularly special as it took place just a short distance from his hometown, making his triumph a moment of pride not only for himself but also for his friends and family.
He said: "I won the title in what was basically my hometown, which made it extra special.
"My fiancée and around 20 of my family were there to support me. They had no idea that I was going to win, and from what I saw, they were mindblown.
“My fiancée and my mum even had a tear in their eye."
His journey into the world of professional wrestling began at Ravie Davie’s Glasgow School of Wrestling.
After initially not giving it his all, Lewis was determined to make a name for himself and now boasts over 60 matches, a championship title, and international experience - all within his first year of wrestling professionally.
"It wasn’t something I was even aware you could do here," Lewis admitted.
"I thought you had to be jacked and in America to be a professional wrestler. For the first year of training, I maybe wasn’t giving it my all, but I realised I had to do more if I was going to make something out of it.
"I grew up watching wrestlers lift belts in their hometown, so for me to do that and make Davie and my family proud was amazing.
“I now know that I could really get somewhere if I keep going."
