LA Funeral For Motorhead Frontman Lemmy

A private funeral for Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister is being held in Los Angeles, with his fans able to watch a live stream of the service on YouTube.

The Motorhead frontman, who had just celebrated his 70th birthday, died on 28 December - two days after being diagnosed with an extremely aggressive cancer.

His bandmates earlier urged members of the public not to turn up to the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery because space is limited, but told fans: "Go to your favourite bar, or your favourite club, make sure they have access to an internet connection and toast along with us.

"Whatever your venue, and however you can, let's be sure to gather globally on Saturday 9th and celebrate the life of our dear friend and irreplaceable icon."

Famous venues along LA's Sunset Strip are among those broadcasting the celebration of the rock star's life - and memorials have been arranged across the Atlantic in London, too.

Meanwhile, one Lemmy fan is continuing in his quest to get the musician immortalised in history - with more than 110,000 people signing his petition which calls for a new element in the periodic table to be named "Lemmium".

John Wright is asking the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry to give the moniker to one of four recently discovered heavy metallic elements as it will be "a force for social good".

He explained: "Anything that makes it easier to stand up as a science teacher in front of a bunch of 12 and 13-year-olds that aren't interested in chemistry has to be a good thing.

"We're celebrating Lemmy but also getting the world's media to talk about the periodic table and what's a heavy metal."

Mr Wright believes a place in the periodic table for Lemmy would compensate nicely for the lack of a knighthood, as it "has a permanence to it that acknowledges and recognises his impact".
