Motorists in Ayr are preparing for further disruption on the A77 for the next four months.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be carrying out “essential road safety junction improvements” at Doonholm Road.

Recent works have seen resurfacing at the Whitletts Roundabout and bridge works on the B7038 onslip south of Kilmarnock.

From Monday, November 25, two-way temporary traffic signals will be in place on the A77 with Doonholm Road and the C39 Corton Road closed while works are underway.

A temporary pause in the works for Christmas is scheduled from Friday, December 20 before recommencing in the new year.

Amey have said the works are expected to be completed in March depending on weather conditions over the winter.

A spokesperson for Amey said: “This work will take place on a continuous 24-hour basis and will require phased lane closures with two-way temporary traffic signals in place on the A77.

“Doonholm Road traffic will be diverted via Bankfield Roundabout, the A713, Belmont Road, Ewenfield Road and the B7024. C39 Corton Road traffic will be diverted via Bankfield Roundabout and the A713.

“Please be advised that these works will pause for the Christmas period on Friday 20th December and will resume in the new year.

“Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

“Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

“This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving safety for those using the route.”
