Motorists Struggle Along Flooded South of France Highway

Miles of tailbacks were reported and emergency crews called in to rescue motorists as the A9 motorway between the southern French cities of Montpellier and Nimes flooded on September 14 amid heavy downpours.

Meteo France issued a red alert for the department of the Gard, and orange alerts for some neighboring areas, as one to two months worth of rain fell in six hours.
