Residents had to put up with 'unnecessary chaos' during works on a busy road through their village. That's the concern put forward by one community leader after temporary lights triggered huge delays in and around Endon last week.

Now ward councillor Joe Porter has written to gas provider Cadent, on behalf of families, to bemoan the 'extended disruption' on the A53. As reported by StokeonTrentLive three-way lights went in at Leek Road's junction with Hallwater, with that road shut off.

However drivers had bemoaned temporary lights being on the main road as the works appeared to be focused on the shut Hallwater. During rush-hour huge queues had spiralled back to Baddeley Green and towards Dunwood in the other direction.

Villagers had been expecting the works to be wrapped up by Friday. However workers were on site on the Saturday morning on Hallwater where a hole was filled in.

But the temporary lights stayed in place and weren't removed until Monday.

Cllr Porter, who represents Endon and Brown Edge on Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, said: "Following the roadworks by Hallwater along the A53 Leek Road, Endon last week, I've written to Cadent on behalf of local residents to complain about the extended disruption caused by the traffic control measures left in place over the weekend and on Monday. The A53 Leek Road is a very busy main road and the extended disruption caused unnecessary chaos to local residents and those travelling through Endon."

We have contacted Cadent for a statement on the works. This week and the firm are on Newcastle Road in Leek where four-way lights are running.
