Mount Sinabung: Video shows spectacular volcanic explosion that turned day to night
Villagers living on the Indonesian island of Sumatra reported the ‘day turned into night’ when Mount Sinabung shot billowing columns of ash more than 5,000 metres into the atmosphere.

A video by the Indonesian Red Cross claimed the area was ‘pitch black’ as thick layers of ash covered the roads and houses.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency says there were no fatalities or injuries from Monday morning’s eruption.
The volcano, which is one of three currently erupting in Indonesia, has killed 25 people since 2010.
It had lay dormant for 400 years before exploding in 2010, killing two people.

In 2014 and 2016 eruptions killed 16 and seven people, respectively.

Disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said hot ash clouds traveled as far as 4,900 metres.

The regional volcanic ash advisory centre in Darwin, Australia, issued a “red notice” to airlines.
Around 30,000 people have been forced to leave homes around the mountain in the past few years.
