Arsonists struck less than 24 hours after fly-tippers dumped a mountain of waste on a road near Nuneaton. Passers-by had spotted the pile of rubbish, including wooden bed frames, left dumped on Wood Lane in Old Arley.

They raised the alarm with North Warwickshire Borough Council about the fly-tipping on Monday (September 16). Less than 24 hours later, the council's environmental crime officer was told that the rubbish had been set on fire.

Now the borough council is urging anyone who knows who is responsible to come forward. "We are reaching out to see if anyone has any information regarding the fly tip or the irresponsible fire," the council said.

It was the latest in what has been a spate of fly-tipping across the area in recent months. Only last week, the council revealed that fly-tippers had targeted a country road four times in just one week.

Commercial rubbish, bags of garden waste, white appliances and tyres were found dumped along Hurley Lane in four different incidents in the space of a week.

Anyone with any information about fly-tipping in the area is being urged to contact the council's Self Service section online.
