Mourners in Shichigahama Mark 10-Year Anniversary of Earthquake, Tsunami, and Meltdown

Japan marked on March 11 the 10th anniversary of an earthquake and tsunami that killed more than 18,000 people, and triggered a nuclear meltdown in Fukushima.

Video footage shows mourners observing a minute’s silence while a siren can be heard in Shichigahama town in Miyagi, one of the prefectures severely affected by the disaster.

“No matter how many years have passed, the memories of the fear and despair of that day will not disappear,” @Nyantashop, who recorded the video, wrote on Twitter. Credit: @nyantashop via Storyful
