James Milner's assist against AS Roma on Tuesday night has seen the Liverpool midfielder break Wayne Rooney and Neymar's record for most assists in a single Champions League season.

Milner's corner in Liverpool's semi-final first-leg clash against Roma was headed in by Roberto Firmino to send Liverpool 5-0 up at Anfield and also mean the 32-year-old has now registered nine assists in the Champions League this term.

That is one more than Rooney and Neymar (both with eight) managed in the 2013-14 and 2016-17 seasons respectively - which had been the previous record until Tuesday night.

Roberto Firmino is behind Milner, Rooney and Neymar in the Champions League assists records with seven in a single season - a record shared by Ryan Giggs, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Xavi Hernandez.

Liverpool conceded two late goals against Roma to win their first-leg tie 5-2, with the return leg set to take place at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday 2 May.
