A movie based on 24 was seriously considered

After the original series of 24 all came to an end in 2010, the team behind the drama – Howard Gordon and Brian Grazer, along with Manny Coto and Evan Katz – mulled over what the "next incarnation" of 24 should be, and the idea of creating a movie version of the show came up.

But evidently that possibility never came into fruition. Instead, they decided that it would be a much better conclusion to stick to the real-time format that had become the trademark of 24, preserving the suspense brought about the all-important ticking clock.

"Once that clock starts ticking, from the beginning all the way to the commercial breaks, you are literally on the edge of your seat," says Corey Hawkins, who played Eric Carter in 24: Legacy, explaining the appeal of the format.

Of course, 24: Legacy was axed last month by Fox, after the reboot series haemorrhaged viewers soon after its debut. But fans can be heartened by the fact that there is another version in the works, but not with any of the Legacy stars involved.

24 originally ran for eight seasons from 2001 to 2010, before being revived with original star Kiefer Sutherland for 2014's event series 24: Live Another Day.
