A South London MP has posted a photo in the hopes of finding a man he described as a 'Gollum lookalike' who allegedly egged his office. Labour MP Neil Coyle for Bermondsey and Old Southwark took to X, formerly Twitter, to post a screenshot of CCTV footage of a man apparently hurling eggs into his office on Jamaica Road at 4pm today (Friday, September 13).

Mr Coyle hoped to identify the man who he described as a 'Gollum lookalike' through the post which has amassed over 2,000 views in just two hours. He said he has reported the man to the police and condemned the alleged attack as 'silly'. Despite this, it appears that the stunt 'shocked local people' who had come to see the politician.

The caption on the post reads: "Can anyone in Bermondsey, Southwark or Rotherhith identify this Gollum lookalike please? Police are looking for him after his silly attack at my office on Jamaica Road at 4pm today which shocked local people who’d come to see me, a volunteer and my hardworking team."

One commenter played along with the MP's Lord of the Rings reference to the character Gollum - a hideously ugly bald creature. He commented: "Terrible that someone does that which intimidates staff trying to do their job. When Gollum is inevitably caught, maybe someone needs to tell him he has also come to the wrong place?" He comically posted a photo of The Shard next to Sauron's fortress Barad Dur with the all-seeing eye

One user did not find the jest so funny however, commenting: "Unnecessary to refer to this person as a Gollum lookalike, Neil, you could have simply posted about the fact they egged your office." Another came to his support and said: "I'm sorry to hear this, Neil. This must have been a distressing ordeal. I hope this comes to a positive resolution soon."

While another commenter took the opposite tack. They said: "If you find him, tell him I'm more than happy to supply him with as many eggs as he wants."
