Mr Bean has proved he's still got the moves, overtaking both Taylor Swift and Katy Perry in the battle for the most Facebook likes.

The popular comedy character, created by Rowan Atkinson over 20 years ago, has reached over 74.44 million likes for his verified account on the social media site.

It means he charges ahead of pop megastar Taylor Swift to take the 14th place in Facebook's popularity ranking system, while Taylor is down on a measly 74.35 million, while Katy has 69.93 million. Pah.

The Mr Bean Facebook page is mainly dedicated to sharing short clips from the character's cartoon series, as well as from other TV appearances and films.

Of course, while Mr Bean tends not to visit TV screens here in the UK anymore – actor Rowan Atkinson has been busy sinking his teeth into roles like ITV's Maigret – the character is still a huge hit all over the world.

One of the last times we saw Atkinson in character was at an appearance at the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, where he used his notable slapstick humour in a Chariots of Fire segment, but earlier this year Atkinson revived Mr Bean for an appearance in China after starring in a new film called Top Funny Comedian.

Next up for Mr Bean would be overtaking the page dedicated to the late Michael Jackson, which doesn't seem such a feat when you think of Mr Bean's worldwide appeal – and considering Michael Jackson currently has 74.9 million, it certainly looks like Mr Bean's in for a shot at beating that figure soon.

He just has to get off that bloody BA flight first.

And as for Rowan Atkinson? Well, he's just started work on Johnny English 3 as production on the film began earlier this month.
