'Mr Coates...' Urgent transfer plea issued as Stoke City handed rude awakening at Watford
Stoke City’s winning start to the new season came to a juddering halt at Watford where Steven Schumacher’s men crashed 3-0.
Both sides had enjoyed opening-day wins in the Sky Bet Championship plus Carabao Cup successes against lower-league opposition in midweek.
However, two goals in two minutes early in the second half from Edo Kayembe and Ryan Andrews set up a straightforward victory for Tom Cleverley’s Hornets, with Kayembe adding another later on.
The Potters were seldom at the races, and supporters were quick to deliver their verdict on a painful defeat, even if Watford are shaping up as one of the division’s better teams early on.

Here is what Potters supporters have been saying on social media…
Luke Furnival: Mr Coates, I would like you to buy a striker please. He’s the guy who sits at the top of the pitch and puts the ball in the back of the goal. The place where we seem to have struggled for the short period of 5 years. Nothing major. Right-back wouldn’t go a miss either.
PhilB: Shocking. Everyone saying it’s a reality check. Well we only just beat a poor Coventry side last week and got battered today, so not a lot has changed still. Keeper looks no better than Bonham, Tchamadeu looks awful and the midfield was non-existent today. A striker is essential.
Matt: Well that was an absolute car crash. Players should be ashamed of themselves.
Skokie 73: Well thank God that's over. Comprehensively outplayed, outmuscled and outscored. Not too bad first half, but dominated in the second. On the bright side, think others will struggle against them too. But we NEED a striker!
Johnsharrock7: That second half was yet another disgraceful display. Players not running, no pride. Really poor.
Lew: People can cry about a striker, but midfield is a huge priority over anything. It links everything together, from back four to the front line.
