Fans of comedy series Mrs Brown’s Boys are in for a treat with a new mini TV series confirmed for 2023.

The series, which has spawned live stage shows, a chat show and a movie, follows the lives of Mrs Brown - played by comedian Brendan O’Carroll - an Irish mother and her four children who live in Dublin suburb Finglas.

Despite the show having annual Christmas specials, it has not had a full series in almost ten years.

Confirming the new was Fiona O’Carroll - Brendan’s daughter and Mrs Brown’s Boys co-star.

Speaking to the RTÉ Guide, Fiona - who plays Maria Brown, the wife of Mrs Brown’s son Dermot - said: “In October we’ll be filming two [Mrs Brown’s Boys] Christmas specials and the first of a mini-series of four episodes, the other three early next year.

She added: “We’ve the live show in November at the SSE Arena in Belfast and 3Arena in Dublin. And we’re planning more theatre dates for next year.”

The long-running series - which was adapted from a radio show which aired in Ireland in the 1990s - was due to make a comeback this year.

Plans had to be put on hold however due to the Covid pandemic, which impacted production delays and the availability of studio space.

Fiona recently announced that she split up with her husband and co-star Martin Delaney, who plays Mrs Brown’s youngest son Trevor.

Speaking about her split from Delany in RTE Guide’s Christmas preview, she said: “Myself and Martin met very young. I was 16, and I suppose he’s all I’ve ever known and we just kind of grew apart.”

Delaney and O’Carroll married in May 2006 and share four children together.
