Nationwide has given some existing customers a £100 'Fairer Share' bonus over the past two years. The details of the bonus scheme for this year have not yet been revealed.

MoneySavingExpert.Com has offered ways people can maximise their chances of getting the free £100 payment if it is rolled out again this year. The Fairer Share Payment is a way of rewarding those members who choose Nationwide for their everyday banking as well as having savings or a mortgage with them.

According to MSE, last year a total of £385 million was paid to 3.85 million Nationwide members and the year before it was £340 million to 3.4 million customers. Assuming the building society keeps the same criteria as previous years, customers have been urged to not close their Nationwide current account and to use the account in the first three months of the year.

For customers with a FlexAccount, FlexBasic or FlexDirect you must either pay in at least £500 and make two payments out of your account or in the January-March, make 10 or more payments out of your account.

Customers must also ensure they have at least £100 savings or owe at least £100 on a mortgage with Nationwide in March 2025. These details have not yet been confirmed by Nationwide, but similar criteria has been used the previous years.

Customers who hold a FlexPlus packaged account arguably have the simplest path, as previously just paying the account fee was considered usage for the scheme.
