Taiwan-based gaming hardware brand MSI announced on Friday (11 June) that it will be launching its new MSI Gaming Arena (MGA) Collegiate programme across Southeast Asia, featuring two seasons of competition in Riot Games' popular first-person shooter VALORANT from July to November.

The MGA Collegiate programme will be open to collegiate-level players from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The MGA University Championship will serve as the overall umbrella for the programme while each participating country will have its own independent one to best serve its local player base.

MSI will be working in partnership with ESL Gaming, TheGaming Company, One Up esports, Riot Games, and VNG for the MGA Collegiate programme.

“MSI has organised MGA successfully around the world for years, including USA, Russia, and China, giving the players, no matter pro or casual, a stage to compete with the best and a chance to shine. It is our goal with the MGA University Championship to provide college and university age players an opportunity to directly participate in the wonderful world of esports,” Sam Chern, Vice President of Marketing at MSI, said in a press release.

“We are thrilled to start the MGA programme in SEA for the first time and look forward to the potential progress of the esports community here," added Tim Lee, Indo-Pacific Regional GM. "We are dedicating the MGA University Championship to support SEA’s most aspiring gamers and give back to the community.”

MSI also assured that the MGA Collegiate programme will adhere as closely to local school schedules as possible.

“With COVID-19 disrupting school and term dates, I hope the continuation of MGA and this tournament will provide a sense of normalcy for players.” said Tim Lee.

Teams and players interested in competing in the MGA Collegiate programme can sign up here.
