Much-loved Exeter café announces big seaside expansion

After five years on one of Exeter's trendiest streets, the owners of a popular café are now gearing up for expansion. They have just announced that they will be opening a brand new café in Exmouth.

The Common Beaver confirmed their new venture will be located just a 10 minute walk from the seafront, saying the location is "perfectly situated" for customers to pick up food and drink before heading to the beach.

The new site was previously occupied by coffee shop and lunch spot Parallel 50, who closed last week "due to personal reasons". In an announcement on their Instagram page, they said: "We are soon to say goodbye from Parallel 50 and welcome The Common Beaver as they set up their new lodge in Tower Street.

"We have been supplying 'feel good food and great coffee' to Exmouth’s community and visitors alike since the start of the summer 2023. With a big focus on championing local suppliers, sustainable practices and plastic free Exmouth we have ensured there have been healthy meals on offer with plenty of plant-based options.

"Unfortunately, due to personal reasons we are unable to continue full-time trading at Tower Street, however we are delighted that The Common Beaver are coming to open their second shop and continue supplying 'dam good coffee' and feel good food.

"The Common Beaver team are big on creating a welcoming, positive environment with great customer service as they provide the best coffee and tasty bites. The community has been at the heart of the shop on Magdalen road in Exeter and they are looking forward to becoming part of the Exmouth community soon.

"We are so very grateful for all the support at Parallel 50 and hope to bump into you over a flat white again soon on Tower Street."

Confirming their new Exmouth café yesterday (November 12), The Common Beaver promised to build on the atmosphere of their existing Exeter premises on Magdalen Road. They are yet to confirm an opening date but have said they will open in just a few weeks' time.

A post on their Facebook and Instagram pages said: "Some of you may have already seen but we are beyond excited to announce that we will be opening a new shop in Exmouth at 6 Tower Street in the next few weeks.

"Perfectly situated for you to grab a coffee and a bite to eat before heading towards or back from the seafront. We look forward to seeing some familiar and new faces at our new location.

"Our new shop will be an extension of what our Exeter café is; a safe space for all people to come and enjoy what we have to offer and build on the community we feel so lucky to be a part of. We’d like to thank you all for your continued support over the years and welcome in this new chapter. We couldn’t have done it without you. See you soon Exmouth."
