Cape Town - Multi-talented star Dumi Masilela died on Wednesday, following an attempted hijacking.
Dumi Masilela was born on 31 May 1988 in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
The local actor, singer and soccer player is best known for his role as Sifiso Ngema on the e.tv soap Rhythm City.
The rising soccer star signed with the PSL soccer team SuperSport United in 2008.
According to Kick Off the striker suffered a double fracture in one leg in the thigh area, when his Peugeot 203 collided with a truck in Kempton Park the same year.
"I spent three months in hospital and two years in rehab, trying to heal - physically and emotionally - and accept the reality that soccer was no longer my life," he told Oprah Magazine.
"During this time, I found it helped to put my feelings of disappointment and sadness on paper, in the form of lyrics," he added.
After the car accident sidelined his soccer career at SuperSport United, he entered the eighth season of Idols SA (2012) and placed in the top 18.
The musician co-founded Appleseed Productions with his partner, Thato Mabaso.
He released the track, Shona Phansi dedicated to his wife in 2016.
His time on Idols SA ultimately led to him landing the role of street kid, Sifiso Ngema, in Rhythm City. At the time he had no acting experience.
"Idols helped to pave this new path. After leaving Idols I received a call from the Rhythm City production house to audition for the role of Sfiso and I landed it. My character's story took me on a journey of self-discovery that helped me to unveil my pain and deal with it," he told e.tv.
The local star married Muvhango actress Simphiwe Ngema in May 2017.
