Multiple Homes Destroyed, Reports Say, as Bega Valley Bushfire Warning Downgraded

Multiple homes were destroyed on October 4 after a bushfire burned through more than 5,000 hectares (12,355 acres) in Coolagolite, New South Wales, Rural Fire Service commissioner Rob Rogers told local media.

This footage, filmed by the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS), shows the fire in parts of the Bega Valley region.

According to local news reports, an unknown number of homes were destroyed in the fires on the state’s south coast. “We know we’ve lost some homes down there, we’re just not quite sure on numbers yet,” Rogers said, according to the ABC.

An emergency warning was in place on October 3, but according to the RFS, cooler weather eased fire conditions overnight, prompting the fire’s evacuation status to be downgraded to a Watch and Act. Credit: NSW RFS via Storyful
