Multiple people injured as bus and lorry collide on Leicestershire's A46

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area

Multiple people have been taken to hospital after a bus and HGV collided in Leicestershire this morning (Wednesday, November 13). Several others have been injured in the incident.

The collision happened at around 9.30am on the A46 northbound carriageway near Syston. Police said the crash involved a bus carrying schoolchildren and a HGV.

A spokesperson for the police confirmed that 16 passengers sustained minor injuries. The force initially said five of these people were taken to hospital "as a precaution", however in an updated statement police said that ten people had been taken to hospital.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident. Drivers were urged to avoid the area.
