A mum has blasted Tesco - after her online order never turned up. Heather Martin says she was told by Tesco that the delivery van had been involved in an accident and would not be delivering her food.

The 32-year-old was offered an £88 refund or the option of picking her shopping up from Meir Park Tesco. But she 'could not get up there' with her four children, aged 12, 10, 9, and 12 months and the refund took a number of days to appear in her account.

It left her using money earmarked for energy bills to cover the cost of another shop a few days later - and surviving on what was in the cupboards over the weekend.

Heather said: "I made the online order on the Saturday and they messaged saying that they had to cancel it. I rang them and they said there was an accident with the van, and they said I could do click and collect or they would refund it.

"With it being in Meir Park, I couldn’t get up there with the four children. So, I had spent all my week’s shopping money on the food for the children, and they said there was nothing they could do and they would have to refund me."

Now Heather has vowed to boycott Tesco online.

She added: "They have been good, but they can’t just leave people like that. I’m not doing another order, I’m going to switch to Asda or something."

Heather added: "Luckily, I didn’t put my gas and electric in, so I had to use that for the food shop and we struggled through the weekend until I was able to go shopping. They could have said they would deliver it later in the evening or the next morning, but they didn’t try that. If I didn’t have that gas and electric money, the children would have starved and that would have been Tesco’s fault."

Tesco has apologised.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “The vast majority of grocery home shopping orders reach our customers as expected but occasionally things don’t go to plan. We are very sorry that this happened, and immediately actioned a refund for the customer.”
