Mum and nine puppies found abandoned
Police have shared a heartbreaking picture of a dog abandoned with her nine puppies. The animals were rounded up on Thursday morning by officers in Glynneath.
It followed reports of concern by members of the public. A spokesman for South Wales Police said all dogs were safely secured and have since been taken to a local animal rescue centre. Stay informed on everything Neath Port Talbot by signing up to our newsletter here

The spokesman said: "Officers from our Roads Policing Unit had a very different kind of 'rounding up' to do this morning in the Glynneath area. Nine puppies and their mother had been abandoned and following calls from concerned members of the public, officers attended.
"With the assistance of one of our dog handlers all were safely secured. The pooches were handed to dog welfare officers from Neath Port Talbot Council who have taken them to a local animal rescue charity."
Earlier this month Sara Rosser, head of operations at Hope Rescue, appealed to anyone struggling to look after their pets to contact animal rescues to avoid causing unnecessary suffering. It came after two German shepherd dogs were "dumped" on a Welsh mountainside.
Speaking to WalesOnline at the time, she said: "We understand sometimes situations can be desperate, but this is not the way to go about it. It's not right for the animals and it's not right for the people helping them. We would urge people to reach out early. While all rescues are under pressure, if we haven't got room to help those animals we can signpost to other organisations and we can offer advice to prevent it from getting to this point."
