Mum-to-be who smashed partner's teeth in fit of rage avoids jail
Spurned lover Amy Owen threw a ceramic figurine at her partner which damaged two teeth after flying into a rage. The 25-year-old turned violent when he told her he was ending their relationship.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he damaged a television, a door and other items as she trashed his home and then threw the figurine, leaving him with serious injuries. Now Owen has been sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
Prosecutor Emily Calman said the defendant was in a relationship with her victim for two years. They had been out together on December 9 but he had broken up with her and she was upset.

Miss Calman said: "She returned home on December 9. An argument ensued. The defendant trashed the house causing damage to the television, bathroom door and other items around the house. She threw a lady figurine vase at him causing two of his front teeth to break. He received a nasty injury to his teeth and upper arm.
"At 2.56pm on the same day the complainant called the police. Police arrived and Owen pushed at the door. She said, 'I do not normally lash out like that. That was wrong'."
Owen, of Oak Mount Road, Werrington, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.
Scott Ashdown, mitigating, said Owen is pregnant and is due to give birth in March. He said the offence happened almost 12 months ago and there has been no repeat since. She lost her employment which has had a punitive effect upon her. She lives with her new partner.
As part of the suspended sentence Owen must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 35 days and 40 hours unpaid work.
Recorder Robert Smith said: "He decided to go home. You stayed out drinking until the early hours of the morning. You then spent the evening at a friend's house. When you returned home the following afternoon he told you the relationship was not working and it was over. Your reaction was a violent rage. You threw a ceramic figurine breaking two front teeth that required extensive dental treatment and caused a deep cut to his upper arm. You damaged a television and door in your fit of rage.
"He takes a compassionate view. He wants you to get help. What you did was a serious offence of violence in a fit of temper. He was in his own home. You assaulted him with a weapon.
"Domestic abuse is committed by both men and women. We can all make mistakes. You have made yours. This is the one chance you are going to get from me."
