A mum and her daughters trio have launched a new venture in Redcar - aimed at bringing something new to the town.

Lisa Rigg and her daughters Amelia, 18, and 16-year-old Chloe, have launched A Place to Escape in Redcar's West Terrace and it is already proving popular. Lisa, 49, who has a business background, said she and her daughters love going to escape rooms themselves and just came up with the idea of opening one of their own.

Escape Rooms have become increasingly popular in recent years. They are an immersive adventure game where groups enter the rooms and attempt to find clues and solve a series of puzzles to escape before time runs out.

The rooms are usually based on a lot of different themes and in Redcar A Place to Escape is planning to eventually have five different rooms for people to pit their wits against the clues and get out in time. Lisa, who lives with her family in Marske, said one of the rooms will be fully accessible to ensure that everyone, including those with any form of disability, can enjoy the fun.

At the moment there are two rooms fully complete and up and running, one is a Hollywood themed and the other is based on a prison break. She said one of the future rooms will be based on Redcar. It is hoped another two rooms will be opened shortly.

Lisa said: "We have loved escape rooms for years and we realised there is not one close to home. So we just thought we would give it a go. We just decided to bite the bullet. It is going really well, we are building up our visitor numbers."

She said she wants to help put something extra into Redcar and alongside the escape rooms there is a new coffee shop which anyone can use. She said it is somewhere people can go along and meet and there are lots of games and puzzles people can enjoy while they are there."
