A Mumbles icon is set to re-open

One of Mumbles' most iconic businesses, The George, is set to re-open. It has been taken over by The Buck Inn in Pontlliw, which has begun looking for a team of staff to work there.

The George closed some time after Michael Knight, who previously ran the business, spoke of his decision to sell up after he became fed up following a series of disputes over a food hygiene rating, rubbish, and outdoor seating. You can read more about that by clicking here.

Announcing its takeover of The George to its followers on social media, The Buck Inn wrote: "We’ve been keeping a secret. Join us on our new venture at The George, Mumbles. We would like to like invite you all to our new and exciting venue which will be opening this summer."

It's said it's looking to put together a team of management, supervisors, bar staff, waiters and waitresses, chefs and kitchen porters, and has encouraged anyone interested in any of the roles to submit their CV.

It comes after posters were erected in the windows of The Dark Horse bar and kitchen stating: "We are coming back with a new menu. Watch this space." We reported in September, 2023, how the restaurant, which features a massive eye-catching horse mural on the side of its building, closed suddenly and was placed up for sale. Its then owners told WalesOnline at the time that, whilst the business was "profitable", they had decided to focus on another of their venues. For the latest restaurant reviews, sign up to our food and drink newsletter here.
