Murder accused released as police continue hunt for Midlands dad missing for more than 16 months
An update has provided in the hunt to find a missing Midlands dad who disappeared from his home on Coronation Day 16 months ago. Stefan Watkins left his home in Warwick on Saturday, May 6, 2023 - the day of King Charles III’s Coronation – with no sign of him since.
Stefan, known as Lee or LeeLee, left his partner and then three-year-old son, Aston, and has not been seen since. Warwickshire Police officers believe the 48-year-old may have travelled to Coventry in the early hours of Sunday, May 7. He has specific links to the Hillfields area of the city.
A spokesperson said: “Despite pursuing numerous investigative opportunities and data enquires - speaking with witnesses, viewing CCTV, and issuing media appeals - sadly, Stefan remains missing.”

A 45-year-old woman from Warwick was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in July. Police confirmed she has been released on Thursday (September 26) with no further action being taken.
Back in July, senior investigating officer, Gareth Unett, said: “Unfortunately, despite significant investigative work, we have no confirmed proof of life after CCTV showed him leaving his home in Warwick. We remain open-minded and truly hope he’s alive and well, however the information we’ve gathered so far suggests he may have come to harm.”
In issuing a fresh appeal to find Stefan, police said: “We’re now asking again for anyone who has information about his disappearance or who has seen Stefan to get in touch with us via our anonymous online portal.”
Detective Inspector Unett said: “We truly hope Stefan is alive and well. We have no confirmed proof of life after CCTV showed him leaving his home on the day of the King’s coronation last year.
“It has been, and continues to be, a challenging time for Stefan’s partner. Any information you can give us – no matter how small – may be a crucial missing piece to help get answers for her and Stefan’s loved ones.”
Stefan is described as white, around 6ft tall, with blue eyes and very short hair. He has connections to Coventry and parts of south Warwickshire. Anyone with information can submit it through the portal, on the force's website. Or can get in touch, anonymously, via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
