Murder Arrest After Assaulted Woman Dies

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was assaulted in Manchester and later died.

The 48-year-old's arrest comes after the victim was found with serious head injuries at a property in Culcheth Lane, in Newton Heath, Manchester.

Paramedics were called to the scene at 12.45am on Sunday but, despite trying to save the 38-year-old woman at the scene, she died a short time later.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the woman has yet to be formally identified and that a post-mortem examination would be done before the weekend is over.
