Murder Mystery: Netflix’s new Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston film breaks record in opening weekend

Murder Mystery has broken a Netflix record after racking up nearly 31 million views in its opening weekend.

The film, which stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, was watched by over 13 million accounts in the US and Canada during its first three days on the streaming site, with a further 17.4 million tuning in worldwide.

A tweet from an official Netflix account read: “ADAM SANDLER AND JENNIFER ANISTON BREAKING NEWS ALERT.

“30,869,863 accounts watched Murder Mystery in its first 3 days - the biggest opening weekend ever for a Netflix Film. 13,374,914 accounts in the US and Canada, and 17,494,949 more worldwide.”

Netflix views are registered if an account watches over 70 per cent of a title. Not all viewing figures are released by the company, only milestone successes such as Murder Mystery.

The figures put the film on course to overtake Sandra Bullock hit Bird Box’s incredible success in its first month after release, with 80 million views.
