Devon: Woman Charged With Toddler's Murder

A 40-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a toddler whose body was found at a home in Modbury.

Angela Vane has been charged with killing the two-year-old and will appear before Torquay Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Officers were called to a property in the Devon village at around 8.20am on Saturday after the child's body was found by a member of the public.

As well as carrying out house-to-house enquiries, police have also begun initial forensic work - although a post-mortem examination has yet to take place.

Police have said it will be carried out in the next few days by a Home Office pathologist or specialist paediatric pathologist.

In the meantime, detectives have re-appealed for information following the boy's death.

Devon and Cornwall Police say they want to hear from witnesses who may have seen a woman in Modbury in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a woman walking between Modbury and Wrangaton between 2am and 8.15am on January 19," a force spokesman said.

"The woman in question is described as having fair, shoulder-length hair and wearing a black jacket, black jeans and green Wellington boots."
