Murder Probe As US Nanny Found Dead In Vienna

An American citizen living in Vienna has been found dead in her apartment, police in the Austrian capital have said.

A police spokesman told US media the woman's body was discovered on Tuesday after she failed to show up for work.

Her half-naked body was found on a mattress after police and firefighters forced their way into the flat.

Both NBC and CBS News, citing the US Embassy in Vienna, identified the victim as Lauren Mann, of Colorado.

Local authorities identified the victim as 25-year-old "Lauren M".

Ms Mann had been working as an au pair, or nanny, in the Austrian capital, authorities said.

Vienna Police spokesman Thomas Keiblinger told NBC News the victim was discovered next to a "considerable amount of blood".

He added that police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination, but investigators are treating the death as a homicide.
