Musician will change his name to Barney McBarnface if he gets a million streams
A Cornish musician has promised to change his name to Barney McBarnface - if he gets 1 million streams by Christmas. Mark Barnwell, 52, is a part-time IT worker and part-time Spanish guitarist who recently released his new single, Café Mañana.
Sadly, Mark's new song isn't rising up the Spotify charts and currently has just 5,000 plays. Eager to promote his new song, Mark remembered James Blunt's recent marketing ploy where he promised to change his name to Blunty McBluntface if the rerelease of Back To Bedlam made it to Number One.
Blunt was unsuccessful, so Mark decided to carry the torch. He has promised to legally change his name if he gets enough streams. As of right now, there are just 995,000 to go.

Mark, from Portwrinkle, said: "I used to be called Barney at school, so I said I'd change my name to Barney McBarnface. The goal I set is 1m streams on Spotify on my latest tune by the end of the year. So far, I've got just under 5,000, so there's a little bit left to go, 995,000 in about seven weeks - it's about 19k plays a day, so it's doable.
"I'll definitely change my name. My partner wasn't overly enthusiastic when I mentioned it, but I'll do it anyway. My parents won't mind; luckily, I'm not having kids; otherwise, they'd be Barnfaces.
"The big blockage is December, because everyone plays Christmas songs nonstop, that could well get in the way."
