Musician who played for King Charles III to perform at Diwali event in Essex
A musician who has played to an audience including King Charles III is to perform at a special event celebrating Diwali in Colchester. The religious festival is being celebrated between October 31 and November 1 this year in the UK.
Colchester Arts Centre is hosting a special event on November 3 when musicians Gurdain Rayatt and Jonathan Mayer are to perform. Mr Rayatt is one of the UK's leading players of the tabla, a pair of hand drums.
Jonathan Mayer, son of the late Kolkata composer John Mayer, has played alongside a number of high-profile musicians, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Sir Paul McCartney.

In the UK, Gurdain has performed alongside all the major performers on the scene including Roopa Panesar, Jesse Bannister, Jasdeep Degun, Kaviraj Dhadyalla, Giuliano Modarelli and more. He had also previously performed for King Charles when he was the Prince of Wales and for MPs at the House of Commons.
The Strings & Thaal event has been promoted by the Essex Cultural Diversity Project. It's one of a number of events taking place across the region as part of a 'Global Village' series that is designed to test audience’s appetites for world music and performance and create a platform for diverse talent.
Tickets for the event cost just £15 for adults and £10 for concessions.
