The mother of an 18-year-old girl who died at Mutiny Festival has paid tribute to her “little girl” as she revealed her daughter took “two pills” before her death.

In a heartbreaking social media post, Janine Milburn said Georgia Jones "was full of life" and issued a warning to other young revellers about the dangers of drugs.

A 20-year-old man also died at the Portsmouth music festival as organisers warned of a dangerous “high strength” substance circulating on the site.

Hospital officials said on Sunday that 13 others festival-goers were taken to hospital, one of whom was in a critical condition.

Craig David and Sean Paul, who were set to top the bill at the two-day event along with Dizzee Rascal, took to Twitter to offer their condolences.

Craig David wrote: “My heart goes out to the family and friends of the two young people who lost their lives yesterday.”

Sean Paul confirmed he would no longer be performing, before adding: “My heart goes out two families of those who lost loved ones last night.”

Mrs Milburn, a healthcare assistant from Wroughton in Wiltshire, wrote in a post on Facebook that “Georgia died due to complications after taking two pills at Mutiny.”

"If nothing else, I hope what has happened to her will deter you from taking anything ever,” she added.

She said: "My little girl was 18 and full of life I just hope this stops at least some of you from ending up the same."

A spokeswoman for Queen Alexandra Hospital, where the pair died, said it is believed they were admitted after falling ill from the effects of drugs.

The other 13 concertgoers attended the hospital on Saturday after being at the festival, but they were "not necessarily all drugs-related", she said.

The festival issued a "harm prevention alert" via social media on Saturday night warning of a "dangerous high strength or bad batch substance on site".

They also confirmed that the final day of the festival, which was due to end on Sunday, would be cancelled as a safety precaution.

Hampshire Constabulary said inquiries were being made to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Police were first alerted to the woman falling ill at the site on Saturday evening and the man was found collapsed around 20 minutes later.

Both were taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital where they later died.

A statement posted on the music festival's Facebook page said: "It is with tremendous sadness that we can confirm that two of our festival family died in hospital overnight.

“An 18 year old woman and a 20 year old man were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital where they sadly died.

“We understand that the police are not linking the two deaths at this stage.

“We do know that the police are supporting the next of kin and we are continuing to work closely with both the police and the other relevant authorities.

“We took the decision, supported by the police, to cancel today's festival to safeguard the welfare of all our visitors and out of respect for the two young people who lost their lives.

“This is deeply upsetting and we again wish to send all our thoughts to the families.”
