Like many millennials, it took me many long years to outgrow the consequential damages of the 2000s tweeze fest. And even now, during the part of my life which I call the new decade after brows, I continue to stay very warily of who touches my arches, how I groom and fill them in.

With Zendaya's godsent full and feathery brows as my definition of goals, I learned that you should never underestimate the power of a light hand and a little brow gel. Sure, pencils, pomades and powders are designed to instantly sharpen the look of even the most sparse of brows, but gels are perfect for enhancing of the definition of the brow hairs you naturally have — the ultimate key to believable-looking eyebrows.

While I've been fortunate enough to test out and review some of the best cult-favourite and celebrity-adored brow gel formulas on the market like Anastasia Beverly Hills' Clear Brow Gel and Benefit’s BROWVO! Conditioning Primer, still, nothing compares to this one drugstore formula that I can’t live without. Enter: the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Boost & Set Brow Mascara.

Not only is it affordable, but one tube of this strong-hold gel is sure to go a long way. Working like a mousse, it easily glides onto the brow hairs for a boost in volume — perfect if you’re a fan of the thicker, natural-looking brow. Unlike other brow gels that I’ve used in the past, this is paired with a skinny angled brush that offers a precise application to manipulate the direction of where you want your brow hairs to go. This is super helpful for me because the front of my brow hairs grow upwards while the meat and the tail grow downward (a common Asian trait) and for a bolder look, I was taught to brush the hair upwards.

The L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Boost & Set Brow Mascara comes in four shades. But because I prefer to accent the brow hairs I have, I find that the clear formula does more than enough for me, especially on those no-makeup makeup days. But for when I do decide to go for a more glam look, I’ve been using the Benefit Cosmetics Brow Microfilling Eyebrow Pen to lightly create hair-like strokes and then finishing off with three to four rough strokes of the Brow Mascara. The gel formula dries surprisingly quick and holds so strong that touch-ups aren’t required!
