Mysterious Stone block with possible royal carving baffles

A mysterious granite block carved with what appears to be a royal figure has attracted the attention of New Jersey locals and historians.

The 14 inch block was found in the riverbed by workers carrying out construction work. Some theories have suggested that it's a logo from a company that supplied paper products to royalty, but others are not so sure.

The carved stone was "buried underground beneath the riverbed," the Borough of Bloomingdale New Jersey Government announced in a Facebook post last week.

The 35x30cm rock shows a woman with curly hair, a crown and a neck ruff -of the style worn across Western Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries.

"We have no idea what it is but we are trying to find out," the borough added.

Commenting on the Facebook post locals have speculated the block could be something to do with The Infant of Prague Statue, one of the child kings in France or Mary Queen of Scots.
