After standing empty for nearly a year, an Exeter nightclub looks set for a new lease of life. It was previously home to the city's only exotic dance venue.

EX4 on Fore Street in the city centre went up for sale after its sudden closure in January. It now appears the place may have been snapped up by new owners and could soon reopen.

An application has been made for a new premises licence at the site which, if approved, would allow the venue to open from 9am to 3am seven days a week. The new business would also be allowed to show films, play music and serve late night refreshment until the early hours of the morning.

Little is known about the applicant BlueStar Life, who appear to have no presence online. Details of exactly what type of venue they are planning have also not been published.

Previous occupiers EX4 first ran into problems in September 2023, when the building suffered severe damage during torrential downpours. While repairs were carried out, two out of its three floors were closed, leaving only the top floor open to revellers. This had normally been home to exotic dance venue Eden Lounge but adult entertainment was paused so that it could be used as the main bar.

While repairs were taking place, a spokesperson for EX4 told DevonLive that they were hoping to reopen fully but that they were undecided on whether Eden Lounge would reopen.

Exotic dancing returned to the venue and the basement bar NV reopened in December 2023. But it was short-lived as on January 4, EX4 announced via its Facebook page that it would be closing completely.

The reasons for the closure were not revealed at the time but when the leasehold of the property went up for sale, estate agents Sprosen Grosvenor revealed in their brochure that it was because the manager had decided to retire.
