Botulinium toxin, better known as Botox, has been used for several years as a cosmetic procedure that dramatically improves the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily paralysing facial muscles – but it can also be used to treat other conditions too.

Today (April 20), Loose Women's Nadia Sawalha confessed that she has Botox in none other than her TEETH.

During a debate about a "chilling" doctor who uses his 18-year-old daughter for cosmetic treatments, the 52-year-old panellist revealed that she has Botox injected into her teeth to repair the damage caused by grinding them together.

"I have Botox in my teeth to stop them grinding," she said. "It's because I'm losing my teeth from grinding them.

"But that's my choice. These are informed decisions made by an older woman."

Speaking to Digital Spy, E4's Body Fixers' expert cosmetic doctor, Dr Esho, said: "Bruxism is the medical term for unconscious teeth clenching and grinding is common.

"Some people use specific mouth guards to combat this but Botox given in specific areas of the jaw (not the teeth) known to be used to chew (muscles of mastication) can help relieve the condition by weakening these muscles.

"Botox can also help 'slim' the jawline as the bulk of muscles in this area of the jaw are reduced by relaxation of the muscle."

It comes after Nadia revealed her shame over drinking alcohol while pregnant with daughter Maddie, who's now 14.

On a previous episode of Loose Women, the former Celebrity Big Brother star said: "When I was pregnant, there was something around one to two units of alcohol a week, and as far as I'm concerned if somebody drinks and there's a loophole, they will jump in the loophole.

"And I am ashamed to say I got in the loophole.

"Actually if I'd known what I know now – and that was me being ill-informed as a mother – that Maddie's liver was the last thing that was going to develop and that the alcohol that I was pouring down my throat was going directly into her, into the placenta."

She went on: "You never know, it's everything you ingest, they ingest..."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
