Nadiya Hussain Defends ‘Wonky’ Birthday Cake She Made For The Queen

Great British Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain appeared on Loose Women today and hit back at critics who said she made Queen Elizabeth II a “wonky” 90th birthday cake, declaring she “couldn’t care less” what people think.

The talented baker whipped up a three-tired orange drizzle sponge and presented it to Her Majesty during her tour of Windsor on April 21.

But the eagle-eyed public slammed the gold and purple creation and likened it to the famous Italian landmark, the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

And a defiant Nadiya finally addressed her naysayers when she joined panelists Andrea McClean, Nadia Sawalha, Katie Price and Kaye Adams on the topical ITV show today.

She said: If I cared about what people said, I would never leave my house. So you know what? Actually I couldn’t care less.”

Despite her comments, the star previously confessed the luxurious desert was made with “trembling” hands.

In a video diary which aired on The One Show last week, she is seen elbow-deep in flour and sugar making the Queen’s cake, and says: “Okay that’s my hand trembling. I’m officially super nervous! It’s such an honour to be doing this. I just don’t want to disappoint the Queen.“

However, the end result obviously tasted delicious, because Nadiya revealed Her Majesty took home the top golden tier.

She also told former glamour model Katie, below, that she did “freak out” when meeting the elderly Royal.

Recalling the moment, she said: “It went really, really well…. I did say, ‘good morning, Your Majesty,’ then I said, 'happy birthday, Your Majesty, it’s afternoon!’

"I did freak out a little bit. I only got two minutes with her but I thought in those two minutes she’s really nice.”

Nadiya appeared on Loose Women to celebrate the ITV daytime show’s 2,500th episode and baked for the panel and other guests including Ruth Langford.
