Nadiya Hussain opens up about her adoption plans
Great British Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain has revealed that she and her husband Abdal are planning to adopt a child in future.
Nadiya, who baked her way to victory on the sixth series of Bake Off in 2015, has three children – Musa, Dawud and Maryam – with her husband and she has told Netmums podcast Sweat, Snot & Tears that the couple are looking to add a fourth child to their family.
Speaking to hosts Annie O'Leary and Wendy Golledge, Nadiya explained that adoption is 'something we're always thinking about'.
'We have the space in our heart and our home,' she said. 'As our children get older we'd love to be in a position to hopefully give somebody else a home.'
She added: 'Once we're emotionally in the right place, I think we'll do it,' saying: 'We've got so much love to give, and we've got space in our home for more children'.
Nadiya, who also hosts her own BBC show Nadiya Bakes, added that she and Abdal have been inspired by friends who have adopted a child, saying: 'I think as we've seen other people do it we've definitely thought about it more'.
The star added that when she was younger she hadn't thought that she wanted her own children, but that marrying Abdal had made up her mind to start a family, as she felt that he would be a brilliant father.
Last week Nadiya reacted to Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood's controversial rainbow bagel comments, telling Paul to 'reference it properly for goodness sake'.
Paul had said that he saw the rainbow bagels as representing the NHS, despite rainbow colours being more often associated with LGBTQ+ Pride.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
