Nadiya Hussain and Zoe Ball to host BBC's Bake Off rival

Nadiya Hussain has been confirmed as presenter of the BBC's Great British Bake Off replacement show - The Big Family Cooking Showdown.

Following in the footsteps of Mel and Sue, the 32-year-old will host the programme alongside Zoe Ball.

The show will tour the country and challenge families to show off their cooking prowess in their own kitchens.

In its search for the best family of cooks, the BBC Two contest will visit 16 households, with chefs Rosemary Shrager and Giorgio Locatelli judging the food.

Hussain, who won Bake Off in 2015, said she knows "exactly how tough it can get" and will be "there for them, alongside Zoe, as the pressure really builds".

Ball said the show will "celebrate passionate foodie families all over the country, even if it's using old pans and mismatched crockery".

The 12-part show will go head to head with Bake Off, which has moved from the BBC to Channel 4, in a prime time slot in the autumn.

The Bake Off final at the end of October received record ratings, with 14.8 million people watching Candice Brown crowned champion baker.

Judge Mary Berry had announced a month before that she would be leaving the show "out of loyalty" to the BBC, as did presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

Paul Hollywood is making the jump to Love Production's next series of Bake Off on Channel 4, but the full line-up is still to be announced.
