Nagging woman dubbed ‘Britain’s worst wife’ spared jail after ‘assaulted’ husband refused to testify against her

A woman branded a ‘Nagsbo’ because of her foul-mouthed rants against her husband has been spared jail after he refused to give evidence against her.

Julie Griffiths, of Fenton, Stoke-On-Trent, was facing assault and intimidating a witness charges after her husband Norman visited a police station to complain about her.

But the charges were dropped after Mr Griffiths refused to attend court and retracted his statement saying she assaulted him in September.

Mrs Griffiths, 47, was dubbed ‘Nagsbo’ after she was handed a five-year Asbo in December 2012 following neighbours’ complaints over more than a decade of hearing her rants against 67-year-old Norman.

Recordings of Griffiths’ shouting at her husband, including an ear-splitting tirade over him smoking in bed, were used to secure the Asbo.

But according to The Sun, in the recent case against her after the alleged assault on her husband, The North Staffs Justice Centre heard that Norman had not attended court proceedings because he didn’t want his wife to be prosecuted.

Prosecutor Moira Bell said: “It is our impression Mr Griffiths wants to continue the relationship and does not want to see his wife prosecuted. This is a gentleman who is extremely vulnerable and supported by police but we can’t get him to come to court. He can’t live without this lady.”

Griffiths was previously banned from the couple’s marital home in Foley Street and was living in a hotel nearby for two months.

In the audio of her shouting at her husband over having a cigarette in bed, recorded in August 2012 and released last year, she can be heard shouting: “Get out if you want a fag. Go. You’re not smoking in bed, I said get out if you want a fag. Get out if you want a fag. Get your shoes on and get out if you want a fag. Now get out.”

Other recordings include her shouting at her husband over a British Gas engineer, and also about the fact she is being recorded.

On one occasion is recording in a foul-mouthed rant, saying: “You f****** b*****d! Shut your f****** gob! Get out of the f****** house! Drop down f****** dead, you f****** lazy b*****d! Stop winding me up. You know what will happen if you f****** don’t!”
