Nail spa set to open at former hair and beauty salon on Yarm High Street
A nail spa is set to open at a former hair and beauty salon on Yarm High Street, according to plans submitted to Stockton Council.
The council has received proposals to alter the shop front at the vacant site, with new signage for "Emerald Nails Spa". Applicant Trinh Hoang also wants to replace a timber-framed window and door with a painted aluminium-framed window and door at the empty ground-floor unit.
A design and access statement sent to the council says changing the use of the site itself, formerly Aspire Hair & Beauty, would not need planning permission as it would stay in the same class. It says the vacant unit is in the Yarm conservation area but is not a listed building.

It quotes estate agents Reid Birkett as saying: "The property is situated in a prime position in the heart of Yarm's main shopping street which has the benefit of on-street parking directly in front of the unit. The town is very popular with local residents and has a number of good local and national occupiers nearby."
The applicant says the new windows and door will be "in-keeping with the surrounding shops along the terrace". Their statement argues the proposal provides "a use and design compatible with the property's existing character and scale" and "nail and beauty treatments for a positive impact on the wellbeing of local residents".
It is also put forward that the new use will help the area's vitality and viability by using a vacant property, and cause no harm to neighbours.
