A dad has sparked discussions after he decided to name his daughter after his favourite number, matching his former hippy lifestyle.

The father shared that at the time of his daughter's birth, he and his wife were "annoying self-righteous hippies" who desired to make a bold statement with their child's name.

Therefore, they chose the name Eleven for their baby girl. However, since the success of Netflix's 'Stranger Things', theres an assumption that his daughter took the name in admiration of Millie Bobby Brown's character.

On Reddit, the father revealed: "My hippy baby mama and I named our kid Eleven. This was before Stranger Things came out. We thought it was mystical, beautiful, cool, and unique. And we were annoying self-righteous hippies. I always figured she'd want to change it but she's in middle school now and still rocking it. She says 'at least nobody forgets my name'."

He went on to recount an incident where a stranger at a pool was surprised to meet a young girl named Eleven, noting: "We were at a pool several years ago and a young man comes up to me says 'Is your kid's name Eleven? That's my name!' He had only ever met one other in his life, he was also a child of hippies from Kentucky. I feel bad sometimes, and constantly get asked what the deal is with her name."

However, he says his daughter takes her unusual name in her stride and loves it even more thanks to the show Stranger Things. He added: "A lot of people are bad at times so they'll ask me if she is named after the show, or a lot of folks assume she adopted it after the show. She loves Stranger Things, which I just find to be the cutest thing ever.

"Anyway it's definitely something I regret now that I'm no longer a card-carrying wook, but I also love my kid and her weird name is part of her story. Won't be mad if she starts going by Elle or something tho."

But wanting to know what others think of it, he asked Reddit users: "Thoughts? Interpretations? Critiques?"

In response, one user said: "I definitely thought of Stranger Things immediately (love the show), but I also kind of genuinely like the sound of it. It's pretty, not horrifically misspelled, easy to shorten to Elle or Ellie, and most importantly she likes it. Unusual, but not a tragedy." Another user added: "You know what's a good baby name, Seven."

A third user said: "Elva (Swedish for eleven) is a proper (but very rare) name in Sweden that's been around for at least a couple of hundred years. Supposedly it was given to the eleventh child when the parents had run out of family members (at a time when the first son would be named after his paternal grandfather, the first daughter after her paternal grandmother, etc) to name the kid after."
