Nancy Drew spoilers follow.

Nancy Drew's second season finale provided drama on the romance front, as it delivered a twist for 'Nace' fans.

Many have been hoping for Nancy (Kennedy McMann) and Ace (Alex Saxon) to get together, and while the last episode of the season saw Nancy dumping Gil (Praneet Akilla) and realising her feelings for Ace, when she went to his house she was hit with a huge setback.

"If you're looking for Ace, you've just missed him. Him and Amanda are off on this romantic road trip," Ace's mother told Nancy, setting up a love triangle between Nancy, Ace, and Amanda (Aadila Dosani).

TVLine asked show bosses Melinda Hsu Taylor and Noga Landau about the storyline and Nancy and Ace's prospects, and it appears there's still hope for those rooting for the pair.

"What we've been saying is this," Landau said. "In our writers' room, Team 'Nace' is living strong. We make sure you see them just enough that you feel fulfilled without throwing the whole meal at you all at once."

Taylor added: "There are also people on Team 'Acemanda', just for the record. [Laughs] And we love the Bobbseys.

"Scheduling and story real estate might delay us from seeing them again for a minute as we head into season 3, but they are very much in the landscape and on people's minds."

The show was renewed for a third season back in February, and there are ongoing plans for a spin-off series centred on Tom Swift, played by Tian Richards.

There has been no update on whether The CW will give a series order to the spin-off, but The Hollywood Reporter recently said that it is "still in contention" at the network.

Nancy Drew airs on The CW in the US.
