NASA Animated Satellite Flyby Shows Tropical Storm Darby in 3D

This animated flyby from July 23 shows Tropical Storm Darby just before it made landfall on the Big Island of Hawaii. Heavy rain, lightning strikes, and flash flooding caused residents and visitors to seek shelter.

Honolulu police shut down sections of the highway on July 25 in response to the storm, while the governor of Hawaii, David Ige, declared a state of emergency on July 22, ahead of Darby hitting the island state. The size of the storm decreased as it reached Hawaii. Credit: YouTube/NASA
